Tips for Getting Ahead in Direct Mail

When planning a mailing even if you don’t know exactly what the letter should say precisely, first of all, choose a lodgement date, allow for as much time as possible with the mailhouse, understand the postage options available to you in terms of both time and money, and make sure you have a system in place for response management.» more »

Variable print campaigns

Did you know a variable print campaign can increase the response rate by +5% (www.directmag.com).

What type of stock is compatible with a high speed laser printer?

Is the base stock I'm going to personalise with a laser printer compatible with a high speed laser printer?

If it's gloss or with a coated finish then you've trouble on your hands - the ink won't absorb but will smear.

Anything thicker than 250gsm as well and you're pushing the machine to its limits.
If you really must use such thick stock types we'd need to obtain 200 sheets from you or your printer to run tests before committing to the work.

Envelopes for direct mail

Questions you should know the answers to before you order envelopes for direct mail.

  1. Are the envelopes on order the correct size to machine insert and seal?
  2. Do they comply with Australia Post regulations to maximize postage discounts?
  3. Should they be self-seal, lick and stick, pockets or wallets?

What data should be included in a record layout?

When setting up to gather information for a database, consider not just how to use it today but how it may be required to perform in the future.

You may only need name, company, address, suburb, state and postcode fields now, but what will your requirements be in the future.

  • Will you require a salutation field?
  • Should addresses be in upper case or mixed case?
  • Will you require a member number?
  • Can the Australia Post DPID bar-codes be applied to maximize postage discounts?
